The Curriculum

To complete a minor in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Intersexual, and Transgender Studies, students must complete 24 units as follows:

  1. Lower-division requirements (4 units required)
  2. LGBS 001: Intro to LGBIT Studies (4 units)
    or
    WMST 001: Gender and Sexuality (4 units)

  3. Upper-division requirements (20 units required)
    1. Four (4) units of English chosen from:


      ENGL 122 (E-Z)/LGBS 122 (E-Z):  Literature and Sexualities (4 units)
      ENGL 143 (E-Z)/FVC 143 (E-Z):  Gender, Sexuality, and Visual Culture (4 units)
      ENGL 144 (E-Z)/FVC 144 (E-Z):  Race, Ethnicity, and Visual Culture (4 units)

    2. Four (4) units of Ethnic Studies or History chosen from:


      ETST 175/WMST 175:  Gender, Ethnicity, and Borders (4 units)
      HISA 130/WMST 130:  Gender, Sex, and Sexuality in Early America (4 units)
      HISE 148A:  Women and Gender in Early Modern Europe, 1348-1800 (4 units)
      HISE 148B:  Women and Gender in Europe, 1800-present (4 units)
      HIST 191T:  Seminar in History, American Thought and Culture (4 units)

    3. Four (4) units of Art History, Classics, Dance, or Music chosen from:

Note:  Students may satisfy an upper-division requirement by completing 4 units of LGBS 198I: Individual Internship.
